“Healthcare Safety:
Protecting Patients and Front Line Staff”
This webinar will present a framework for a patient safety program that protects patients and healthcare providers from preventable injury. The program will encompass various aspects of a patient safety program including prevention protocols, reporting mechanisms, and the utilization of telehealth to meet the needs of patient care while maintaining the highest standards of safety for our patients and front line staff.
Participants will learn what organizational infrastructure is required to successfully implement an effective patient safety program.

With over 25 years of experience as a clinical healthcare executive, Dr. Lina Shihabuddin serves as the Chief Medical Officer for RWJBarnabas-Rutgers Medical Group. In this role, she has strategic accountability and responsibility for over 300 primary care providers in both faculty and community primary care practices. As part of the COVID-19 response team for the health system, Dr. Shihabuddin deployed telemedicine across the entirety of the medical group within a few days of the COVID-19 pandemic and assembled a rapid response Intensive Transitions of Care from different assets within RWJBarnabas Health system to decompress the health system’s inpatient and emergency room capacity due to the high influx of COVID-19 cases. These rapid responses were critical to RWJBarnabas Health’s ability to care for our patients, their families, and our communities through better care and better quality.
Prior to being promoted to the CMO role for the Primary Care Service Line at RWJBarnabas-Rutgers Medical Group, Dr. Shihabuddin served as the CMO for Behavioral Health at RWJBarnabas Health where she built the largest behavioral health network in the State of New Jersey with psychiatrics, psychologists, advance practice providers, and licensed social workers in both inpatient and ambulatory sites. She has also served as a Director Senior’s Mental Wellness and Memory Program at Columbus Hospital and served as the Medical Staff President, Medical Director of Geriatric Psychiatry, and the Director MIRECC Psychiatry Fellowship Program at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.
A graduate of the American University of Beirut School of Medicine, Dr. Shihabuddin completed a psychiatry residency at Case Western University and dual fellowships in both Neuroimaging and Geriatric Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Care, the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (with added Geriatric Psychiatry qualifications), and the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. Dr. Shihabuddin holds a faculty appointment as the Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine, has received multiple multi-million dollar grants from the Veterans Administration and Eli Lilly, and has over 30 peer-reviewed publications from journals to book chapters. A frequent speaker at lecture series, Dr. Shihabuddin has also served as Chairman for several national task forces
