May is for mental health awareness

Dear ACHENJ member,

ACHENJ-Cares is committed to increasing awareness of mental health. Millions of people in the United States are affected by mental Illness. One in five live with a mental health condition. May is mental health awareness month. ACHENJ-Cares would like to raise money to support the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of all those affected by mental illness. Our goal is to raise $2500 during the month of May. NAMI has a $75000 matching gift campaign during mental health month. We hope to double our goal of $2500 with a potential matching contribution by NAMI.

ACHE-NJ 2021 Wishes Award

“Wishes Come True”

A community service project of the American College of Healthcare Executives of New Jersey (ACHENJ) Conducted in conjunction with the New Jersey Regent’s Advisory Council.

Wishes Come True is the primary community service project of ACHENJ. Each year, wishes are granted to chronically ill children whose lives are significantly impacted by their illnesses.

Creation of this program in 1991 represented an important expansion of the normal activities of our professional association. The program provides us an opportunity as healthcare executives to extend ourselves and demonstrate what we feel healthcare is all about – caring. Wishes will be funded through the contributions from members and the donations from our Corporate Community.

Nominations for wish-recipients come from our members.

ACHE NJ Chapter Mentorship Program

ACHE NJ Chapter is launching a Mentorship Program from September 2020 – June 2021 for NJ healthcare leaders who are currently employed in healthcare management positions. The goal of the Mentorship Program is to assist members in developing careers in the competitive world of healthcare administration, networking with other healthcare professionals, expanding knowledge of healthcare issues, and promoting the value of participation in The American College of Healthcare Executives.

Qualifications:

The program is free of charge and open to ACHENJ regular members and administered by ACHENJ volunteer members. Due to the limited availability of volunteer mentors, the program is not open to ACHENJ student members at this time. For the first year of the program, eligible mentees include early careerists who are employed in healthcare administration and in the early stages of their healthcare career (typically under 5 years of professional experience) and interested in professional development. Eligible mentors include mid-careerist and senior executives who are healthcare managers, directors, or administrators with at least 2 to 5 years of experience and are interested in sharing their experiences and knowledge to assist with the development of early careerists. The program is not intended as an employment service for those seeking a position in healthcare administration.

If you have additional questions, please email Mary Therese Hankinson at mthank@aol.com or Syed Rehman at syedclinicalengineer@gmail.com, Co-Chairs ACHE NJ Chapter Mentorship Committee.

We would like to hear from you!

ACHENJ’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee would like to hear from our members to gauge interest level around the specifics for our speed networking program in January. This includes recommendations on new event topics, the best days to hold events, etc.
