Daniel J. Messina is the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of CentraState Healthcare System. Prior to joining CentraState in May 2001, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Monmouth Medical Center, a 529-bed facility and an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Healthcare System, and Vice President for Clinical and Support Operations at Hackensack University Medical Center, a 714-bed facility.
His extensive and successful career in healthcare spans more than 29 years. He has expert knowledge in day-to-day hospital operations and long-term care, as well as a thorough understanding of the challenging healthcare environment at large. Dr. Messina’s responsibilities at CentraState include a 267-bed teaching hospital, a 121-bed nursing home, an 82-bed assisted living facility and a 420 unit Continuing Care Retirement Community. He works closely with the CentraState management team and physicians to facilitate high performance operations with a focus on growth, product line development, performance improvement, patient satisfaction and program development to maintain CentraState’s position as one of the state’s healthcare leaders.
A licensed Nursing Home Administrator, Dr. Messina has an Associate degree in Liberal Arts/Science from the College of Staten Island, a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences from Long Island University, a Masters of Public Administration degree in Healthcare Administration from C.W. Post College, and his Ph.D. in Healthcare Leadership from Seton Hall University. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Board certified in Health Care Management, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Healthcare Executive magazine. He is affiliated with numerous national and regional professional organizations, including the Board of Trustees of the Visiting Nurses Association, Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey, as well as Chairman of the Mid-Jersey Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and a member of the NJHA Policy Development Committee. Dr. Messina is also past Regent for Northern New Jersey and past President of the Association of Health Care Executives in 1993, when the AHENJ won the National Affiliated Group Award sponsored by the American College of Healthcare Executives. In 1992, he was awarded the Northern New Jersey Early Career Healthcare Executive Award by the American College of Healthcare Executives, and in 2006 the Senior Healthcare Executive Award for New Jersey. Dr. Messina also serves as an Adjunct Professor in Healthcare Administration at Seton Hall University. His greatest accomplishment is his wonderfully supportive family that includes his wife Debra and their two children, Daniel and Lianne.

Take the Garden State Parkway Southto Exit 123 (Route 9 South).
Take Route 9 past Freehold Raceway to the West Main Street/Route 537 Exit ramp.
Turn right onto Route 537 West.
Continue straight for approximately 1.6 miles.
The Medical Center will be on your right.
From New York City (Northern Manhattan and the Bronx)
Take the George Washington Bridge to Routes 9, 1 and 46 to the New Jersey Turnpike South.
Take the Turnpike to Exit 11 (Woodbridge) and follow to Route 9 South.
Proceed as above.
From the New Brunswickarea
Take Route 18 East to Route 9 South.
Proceed as above.
From the Philadelphia area
Take the New Jersey Turnpike to exit 7A for 195 East.
Take to the Great Adventure/Freehold exit for 537 East.
Continue straight for approximately 7.5 miles.
The Medical Center will be on your left.
From the Ocean County/Southern Jersey area
Take Route 9 North into Freehold.
Take the West Main Street/ Route 537 exit.
Turn left and proceed west on 537.
Continue straight for approximately 1.6 miles.

From the Hightstown Area
Take Route 33 East.
Stay on Route 33 East until it splits.
Continue straight on the Route 33 bypass (do not bear right onto Route 33 Business).
Take the first exit (for Route 537 West).
Continue about 1/2 mile to traffic light (Route 537).
Turn right onto Route 537.
Proceed 1/2 mile to Medical Center on the right.
